This rather special hotel is located in one of the most beautiful places on the Pelion peninsula; the tiny hamlet of Damouchari just to the south of Agios Ioannis. In a very peaceful setting (Damouchari is car-free) the hotel is just a minute or three’s walk from the natural harbour, the white-pebble beach, the two mini-markets and the four tavernas here.
The personable owner, Apostolis, has created a very individual hotel, charmingly bohemian in style reflecting his artistic nature. The 15 units here are built amongst luxuriant gardens; a mix of rooms (sold with breakfast included) and studios and apartments (sold on a self catering basis).
The three BB rooms are at the lowest levels of the gardens near the reception. All possess a double bed, ensuite shower room, tea/coffee-making equipment and a sitting out area in the garden to the front.
The studios are mostly ground floor and similar to the double rooms, with the addition of a small kitchenette offering light cooking facilities. All are again double-bedded (most have a full-sized divan-bed in addition) and have a balcony or garden area with table and chairs. Two on the first floor share a large common terrace with views to the sea.
The small maisonettes comprise a ground floor living area containing a sofa-bed or two and kitchen area with steps up to a double bedroom above – they are open-plan apartments, so no bedroom door. Each one has very nice views to the sea from the bedroom and a garden sitting-out area to the front, and one also has a terrace off the bedroom (on request only).
The large maisonettes are similar with the addition of a second bedroom (twin) upstairs, a bath in the bathroom and a good-sized sun-terrace, again with fine sea views, off the front double bedroom.
Furnishings and décor are rather eclectic – quite simple, very attractive but all different! Each room has been individually designed and furnished, often with objects d’art or local antiques. In some rooms there may be limited hanging and/or drawer space rather than a wardrobe. But the whole is done with such flair that we can forgive a few quirks! All bedrooms have a fan.
In the reception there is a bar called Kleopatra Miramare, and here Apostolis may on occasion entertain you with musician friends.
At the top of the garden is the freshwater pool (14m x 7m, depth 1.0m-2.5m) and a BBQ area.
The Damouchari Hotel, we think, is a gem. With a unique character, a magnificent setting and quick access to the beach and some excellent local tavernas, we think a holiday here will live long in the memory.
Note: On arrival and departure guests will need to walk for 3-4 minutes from/to the village parking area via a rough mule-path down the hill. Luggage will be delivered by hotel staff. The hotel does exchange Travelller’s Cheques. We do not consider this hotel to be suitable for families with young children (under c.10 years old).
